by Rebecca Honig Friedman
Congratulations to blogger Mother In Israel on her nomination for the Weblog awards! “A Mother in Israel is one of ten finalists in the category of Middle Eastern and African blogs.” Voting ends November 8th.
Jewesses visit Darfur and email home about it. Excerpts from the private emails of Jewish World Watch members while visiting Sudanese refugees in Chad. The Jewesses’ mission was to evaluate the efficacy of a program to provide female refugees with solar cookers, so they don’t have to endanger themselves by going out in search of firewood. Jewess, safe and sound, speaks. “The Jewish female officer held hostage by Druze rioters…is certain she could have been killed, as some of the attackers tried to stab her in the chest and stomach but failed due to her bulletproof flak jacket.” [Arutz Sheva]
Democratic Jewess challenges Republican incumbent. “For the first time in years, Weston [CT] residents will go to the polls next Tuesday, Nov. 6, to vote for First Selectman and see more than one name on the ballot.” That’s because Gayle Weinstein, an active member of Hadassah, is running against Woody Bliss, 71, who has held the position since 2001. Hadassah is International, too. “Most people think of Hadassah as a women’s organization in the United States, but through Hadassah International, we have different units in … a lot of other places, plus many members who are male,” says Barbara Sabin, chair of special projects for Hadassah International, who will be speaking in Wayne, NJ on Nov. 13. Shopaholic inspired by Hadassah Lieberman. Shopaholic confesses, “Hadassah Lieberman, was the guest speaker at a fabulous luncheon that I just attended for a charity. Her words transcended across every religion. Her speech empowered every woman to take a stand. Hadassah emphasized the power of faith and commitment.” [Confessions of a Shopaholic]
You simply must go to Kleinfeld’s. More Jewish brides get their wedding dresses from Kleinfeld’s than any other mega-bridal gown store. [Forward]
